Troubleshooting your Xbox 360 Power Supply when the light is orange

Introduction

SYMPTOMS
While you are using the Xbox 360 console, the power supply light changes from green to orange.

CAUSE
An orange light is illuminated on the power supply for one of two reasons. Either the console is turned off or the power supply is disconnected from the console. This behavior is typical. It indicates that the power supply is in standby.

Even if the console is turned off, the power supply light may still be illuminated orange. This can occur if the power supply cord is not fully inserted into the power socket of the console.

If the power supply light is orange but the console will not turn on, there may be a problem with the console.

1. Turn off the Xbox 360 console.
2. Disconnect the cord that connects the power supply to the console. To do this, follow these steps:

The power supply has several built-in safeguards to help prevent damage to either the console or to the power supply itself. The power supply can turn itself off when there is too much current, too much voltage, or too high a temperature.
