Xbox 360 Red Ring of Death (RROD) - Learn More About the 3 Flashing Red Lights on the Power Button

Red ring of death (known as the RROD problem, 3RRod 0102 or E74 Error) is problem which maybe happened in most if Xbox 360 gamer (I had it 2 times and it all ended with broken Xbox 360). This RRoD problem will make your Xbox 360 stop working and cannot connect to Xbox LIVE. If damage haven’t badly you can turn off you console, wait several hour and you can play it again.

RRoD problem occurred when lights on Xbox power button showing red lights instead on green light. Number of lights can be 1 or 3. That’s why we called 3 RRoD or 1RRoD problem. There is several type of 3 RRoD problems and the most common is 0102 – you can know it by pressing sync and power button at the same time fourth time and check number of light appear. Same with 3 RRoD problem, 1 RRoD also means problem happened on you Xbox 360 and the most common is E74 as shown below:

After do several troubleshooting and checking problem Xbox 360, RRoD problem is happened due to bad soldering quality on GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) or CPU into Xboox 360 motherboard. When Xbox 360 is powered up, automatically some part especially GPU and CPU will generate heat as these two parts is the major part on Xbox 360. GPU act to provide best graphic and CPU controlling all process on Xbox 360.

This heat due to Xbox 360 bad air circulation and very small headsink on top of GPU chip will keep inside on your Xbox 360. At the end connection between GPU or CPU chip and motherboard will cut off and make connection failure and make you console flashing RRoD problem (can be 3 RRoD or 1RRoD)

Can you prevent Xbox 360 from overheating?

Some people said better avoiding problem happened rather than fix that problem. If your Xbox 360 hasn’t got any overheating problem what can action can be done to prevent it. Well the biggest challenge is not to let your GPU and CPU become overheated. This can be done by making better cooler system on your Xbox 360.

• Changing your Xbox 360 fan - some people same with me is changing input or adding fan with 12 volt input. the point is putting those 2 fan Xbox 360 with 5 volt input is a mistake, you have to input bigger voltage so your Xbox 360 will be cooler
• Unboxing you Xbox 360 - some gamer are making their Xbox 360 naked, meaning this will make better air circulation on Xbox 360.

Can you fix your Xbox 360 permanently?

There is no guarantee if you Xbox 360 already has overheating problem, you can fix it permanently. Some people can fix permanently and some of them – like me – have to deal with 3RRoD every day. You can fix it within 2 hours and if you are lucky , your console will work as good as new again.
